The Beginning: A Legacy Rooted in Community
Kamuli Township Primary School was established by the Indian community in 1927, with the vision of providing quality education to Indian children. During those early years, the school was deeply rooted in Indian culture, with management and the student body predominantly Indian. It served as a vital educational hub for the Indian population, which was thriving in Kamuli at the time.
A Turning Point in 1972
The school experienced a monumental shift in 1972 when the then-president of Uganda, Idi Amin Dada, expelled Asians from the country. This marked the end of Indian dominance in the school. Five years later, in 1977, the Government of Uganda officially took over the administration of the school, transforming it into a learning institution for the local Ugandan community.
A New Era of Inclusivity
Under the stewardship of the Ugandan Government and later the Kamuli Municipal Council, Kamuli Township Primary School became a beacon of inclusive education. It opened its doors to children from all backgrounds, reflecting the diversity and resilience of the Kamuli community.
Today, the school is managed collaboratively by the Education Department of the Ministry of Education, Kamuli Municipal Council, and the Local Government. This joint effort ensures that the school’s leadership, administration, and curriculum align with national education standards while catering to the unique needs of the community.
